Research success

Novalait’s research has resulted in numerous successes, providing practical and innovative solutions for both the farm and the plant. Through close collaboration among researchers, producers, and dairy processors, Novalait’s efforts have effectively addressed the specific challenges faced by the Quebec dairy sector.

Every year, new research projects are launched for the benefit of Quebec milk producers and processors.

Facilitating access to new scientific knowledge

The Forum Techno is the main communication event organized by Novalait to publicize the results of funded research. For dairy producers and processors, it’s also an opportunity to exchange ideas with researchers and students. The Forum differs from scientific symposia in its strong focus on the application of research results and the potential impact for reducing costs or creating value on the farm or in the plant.

New format for Forum Techno

In 2023, Novalait changed the format of its event in order to increase access to research results and showcase scientific expertise. Novalait has partnered with the Centre de référence en agriculture et en agroalimentaire (CRAAQ) for the Dairy Cattle Symposium, the annual event for dairy producers. Novalait has also teamed up with the Conseil des industriels laitiers du Québec (CILQ) to hold a scientific information day as part of its summer event, Lait’cole d’été.

A qualified and committed next generation

Thanks to its investments in research, Novalait also encourages the emergence of experts trained at master’s and doctoral levels, ready to meet the challenges facing dairy companies.

My Master’s degree enabled me to develop an effective method of project planning and management. I also had the opportunity to specialize very quickly in the dairy sector, and to push my understanding right down to the fundamentals of the science. The cutting-edge knowledge I acquired of analytical methods, new technologies and the physiochemistry of dairy products now serves me well in my day-to-day duties. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to carry out higher education in collaboration with Novalait, and very satisfied with my integration into the job market.

At the doctoral level, we seek to push back the limits of our knowledge on a given subject. This process is not a smooth one. It can be fraught with questioning, changes of course and backtracking before you cross the long-awaited finish line of defending your thesis. What I remember most about my graduate school experience was the development of perseverance and resilience in the face of difficult projects. Today, these skills are extremely useful in an industrial research context, where you need to demonstrate scientific rigor while knowing how to adapt to the constraints of factory production.

I was fortunate enough to do my Master’s in an applied research project on dairy cattle nutrition. During my studies, I realized that graduate studies are about much more than managing a research project and taking courses. It’s also about learning how to apply a scientific method to a problem, increasing your knowledge, participating in the advancement of knowledge, expanding your network of contacts, and much more! Thanks to this background, I was able to land a strategic position in Lactanet’s innovation and development team. To my great delight, this job now allows me to put my expertise at the service of the Canadian dairy industry.
