Our organization

Novalait: a bold vision and a unique business model

In 1995, Quebec milk producers and processors got together to create Novalait, a company that would enable them to invest in research to accelerate the development of the scientific knowledge and skills required by dairy companies to innovate.

This unique model, supported by financial partners, creates significant leverage to fund research projects with tangible benefits for farms and dairy plants.

Our mission

For 30 years, Novalait’s leadership, know-how and investment in research have ensured the development and valorization of knowledge to stimulate innovation and promote the sustainable development of Quebec’s dairy industry.

Organizational structure

Novalait brings together all the companies that produce or process milk in Quebec, ranging from artisanal cheesemakers to family farms and multinational companies. They are represented within Novalait by three groups of shareholders. The Producteurs de lait du Québec hold 50% of the company’s shares. The other half is shared between dairy cooperatives, represented by Agropur coopérative, and private dairy processors, grouped together under the Conseil des industriels laitiers du Québec.
