Targeted Research Priorities
Indicators and monitoring tools
The objective of this project is to optimize the technological maturation of a previously developed proof of concept. The tool developed as part of this project would facilitate the prediction of transformation processes, including material and energy balances, for a wide range of unit operations.
Project Summary
Simulait is simulation software designed to predict material and energy balances for dairy processing operations. It can help compare the environmental and economic efficiency of technologies and train the next generation of specialists in process performance analysis. The preliminary version of the Simulait software was programmed in an obsolete language, with a non-compliant architecture, and could only predict a fraction of industrial operations. Critical operations such as filtration were not included.
The project involves modernizing Simulait into a secure application, incorporating improved algorithms and additional modules to meet the needs of cheese factories. The calculations will notably include the physical properties of dairy fluids and regulatory standards.
Simulation results will be validated by representatives from dairy companies before a new version of Simulait is made available to users. This overhaul aims to provide a reliable tool for optimizing processes and reducing the environmental impact of processing plants.
Expected Results
Process simulation software:
- Validated by dairy processing companies of various sizes
- Capable of predicting material and energy balances for a wide range of unit operations.
Main Achievements
- Training of a doctoral student
- Delivery of simulation software validated by dairy processing companies
- Dissemination of results through scientific articles and popular science communications
